The Gig Economy is best known for consumer-facing on-demand services such as Uber, Lyft, and TaskRabbit. What is less visible is that businesses are leveraging the gig economy, also known as the freelance economy, to find high skilled variable labor. Companies like Upwork, Toptal, and Fiverr are disrupting how organizations are finding, recruiting, and hiring top talent in many industries including tech, creative services, and finance. The research study “Freelancing in America: 2017” predicts that over 50% of the U.S. workforce will be freelance by 2027 and found that 47% of millennials in the workplace are already freelancing.
